Drone Racing League DRL Announces Biosphere 2 Event
The Drone Racing League (DRL), the world’s premier drone racing santioning body, has announced it will stage the third race of the 2018 DRL Allianz World Championship Season at the unique venue of Biosphere 2 in Oracle, Arizona.
The event will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2018.
This race will also be recorded for broadcast on ESPN and other networks in more than 75 countries.
The drone racing event will be broadcast in the fall.
According to the Biosphere website, this special race (part of drone racing as seen on ESPN), will feature the Biosphere 2 theatrically lit at night, with thousands of LED and colored lights enhancing the structure in a way never seen before. Twelve elite FPV (First Person View) pilots will fly custom-built DRL drones in excess of 90 miles per hour through a complex, three-dimensional racecourse inside Biosphere 2, battling it out for first place and the chance to compete in the DRL season finale in Saudi Arabia!
According to the press release more than 55 million drone racing fans from around the world watched the DRL ‘s 2016 and 2017 drone racing seasons.
There are also other activities and demostrations scheduled such as hands-on experiences with drones, get the chance to study the science behind autonomous vehicles, see demonstrations of remotely operated vehicles and learn more about robotics and drones and the ways they support earth science.
