2017 DRL The Drone Racing League Season Opener on ESPN2
Tonight is the Drone Racing League’s 2017 season opener and will be broadcast on ESPN2.
The DRL Alliance World Championship kicks off with Miami Nights at Hard Rock Stadium.
There will be 16 drone pilots competing in the season opener.
One of the pilots came out of the DRL’s drone racing simulator competition where 100,000 aspiring drone racers started in competition. The top 24 finishers advanced to the Bud Light 2017 tryouts in New York City.

The winner of this final event hailing from Zionsville, Indiana with the handle of Jawz aka Jacob Schneider, 30 earning a $75,000 professional contract from DRL and a spot in this year’s main event. Going “from gamer to pilot in a couple of weeks” said DRL founder and CEO Nick Horbaczewski.
Tonights event is a level 1 semi-finals event.
The event will be broadcast on ESPN2 at 8pm ET.
The 2017 season consists of four preliminary races across the United States, starting with “Miami Nights.” Each episode/course is themed. The top 12 pilots advance to a semifinal round in Munich, Germany, and the best eight move on to the Allianz World Championship in London.

This year also introduces a new more powerful drone used by DRL called The Racer3.
